C.J. MacLellan & Associates provided a
facilities study and pre-design in
early 2001 to completely renovate the aged Port Hood arena. The ice surface
was to be completely replaced to NHL size and a fitness and mezzanine
viewing area provided as well as numerous public safety issues addressed.
The renovations in addition to new rink surface, boards, and mechanical
plant also provided larger modern locker, shower and change room
facilities. Also new lounge and office area on mezzanine level with a
fitness center provided on the first level of a building extension. Design
services included Surveying, Site Civil, Structural, Mechanical and
Electrical services.  Commenced only after the August 7 Chestico Days were complete, the fast tracked schedule was projected to have ice available by early November. The project was broken into 11 contracts and project managed by the Arena Commission.
