POMQUET STP GRAND OPENING

July 11th, 2003 marked the official opening of the Pomquet innovative wastewater collection system and sequencing batch reactor (SBR) sewage treatment facility.  Although the facility has been serving more then a dozen residences in the oceanside community for several months, the community came together to celebrate the official opening.

"This day is certainly the result of a total community effort."  Municipality of the County of Antigonish warden Herb Delorey told the more than 30 government officials, municipal staff, and community members in attendance at the ceremony.

The $1.3 million project, was a cost shared endeavour between the federal, provincial, and municipal governments through the Canada Nova Scotia Infrastructure Program.

Delorey commended all levels of government for their support including the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations for "their guidance and financial support".

Antigonish MLA Angus MacIsaac applauded the sense of government and community co-operation that made the dream of  a sewage treatment plant a reality.  "With all the announcements of projects beginning, it is always special to be part of the conclusion of a project," he suggested.
