CJ MAC SURVEYING DEPT. |
|
The Survey Department has been performing engineering and legal surveys since the Company was incorporated in 1973. Most of the present survey staff have been with the company for more then ten years. The Survey Department has progressed with technology and training to meet current market requirements. Our field crews are familiar with engineering design standards and the level of effort and accuracies needed for particular tasks. The survey team has completed numerous engineering site surveys and legal boundary surveys. The surveys were necessary for land use studies, environmental audits, planning and construction of roads, industrial parks, residential developments, wharves, airports and buildings. To improve survey accuracy, and to be more cost effective, all field data is now collected and processed electronically. The survey department are abreast of the current technologies, their abilities and limitations. CJM Inc. use real-time kinematic (RTK) Global positioning system (GPS) utilizing the Coast Guard Beacon to achieve sub-metre accuracy. As well CJM Inc. have dual frequency receivers to permit RTK surveys to sub-centimetre accuracy suitable for detailed engineering design. The survey department also applies the GPS technology for more accurate and efficient hydrographic surveys. Trigometric surveys with "total stations" are more complete in that horizontal and vertical locations of ground features are quickly measured, stored, and computed with minimal effort. With the fully integrated system the survey data is recorded in the field, and calculated and electronically downloaded to the final drawing format. The 3-dimensional data obtained can be directly downloaded to an earthwork software program. The data is then easily manipulated so that design alternatives can be viewed. The data is easily manipulated to show profiles and cross-sections. In addition contours can be generated so that quantities can be determined and drainage patterns identified. As a result, the more accurate and complete data, and its ease of manipulation, ensures that the optimum design is identified. Electronic data processing is further enhanced by telecommunications to permit inter-office transfer of information. Data is regularly transmitted via internet, and FTP sights. Our experience has been that the prompt transmission of accurate information is essential for quality, schedule and budget control. The survey program performs all coordinate geometry calculations, adjustments and manipulation of 3D data. Drawings are prepared with Autocad 2002 and Land Development. Digital terrain models, contour, profiles, cross-sections and 3-dimensional models are prepared with C&G coordinate geometry, Quicksurf earthworks which run within Autocad. The survey/drafting department have considerable experience marrying existing mapping files and field surveys to produces maps for planning, flood risk mapping, engineering design, infrastructure inventory and management. Land Development software permits the transformation of digital maps to the desired coordinate system. CJM Inc. have completed in excess of 3000 legal surveys for; one-lot to eighty lot residential subdivisions. Legal surveys have included industrial park developments, cottage lots, roadways, right of ways, easments and boundary retracements for woodlots. The diverse nature of the Company's projects has resulted in survey experience in most tasks and warrant innovation to meet the desired goals.
