Liscombe Lodge was expanded to include a swimming pool and two spas. A pre-design study was completed to identify the alternatives for treating the pool wastewater and the additional load on the sanitary sewage treatment system. The existing sand filters and soil absorption systems were at, or exceeded, there capacity. Systems were designed that separated and De-chlorinated the swimming pool filter backwash water and provided an expanded sand filter to treat the lodge and recreation complex sanitary sewage. C.J. MacLellan provided full design engineering and construction supervision.

Shown above is the careful placement of the topsoil cover atop the new sand filter to meet the lodge's sanitary sewer requirements.

The Sand Filters low tech treatment process allow the use of indigenous materials and the local labour force.

Shown above is the final product.  It is well hidden and with a few more years of grass growth the pipes and manhole with be the only visible reminder of the sand filter's location.
