The involvement of C.J. MacLellan & Associates Inc. in the design of
components for the confederation bridge included the design of two types
of ice shields.
|
 |
The first was the design
of a cofferdam / ice shield at E3. The cofferdam / ice shield was 5.8
meters high, 13.5 meters in diameter at the bottom and 6 meters in
diameter at the top. The shield was 10 mm thick and was held in place
by an exterior steel skeleton frame of W200 steel beams. This
exterior frame was designed to hold the shell in place during its
functioning as a cofferdam and then to be removed after installation
was complete. The second type was
the plain ice shield which was designed to retain the concrete during
the pour. |
