BUS OPERATION CENTER

Straight Regional School Board

C.J. MacLellan & Associates provided mechanical and civil engineering services for this 24,000 ft2 facility that includes office space, storage space, and a bus maintenance garage.

Extensive use was made of source capture ventilation units to remove the  air contaminants and particulate matter that originated from a variety of sources (woodworking, welding, painting, and vehicle exhaust.)  Due to the variety of heating requirements in this facility, a combination of different heating methods was required.  A number of energy sources are used to supply the heating system which uses heat pump technology, a hydronic boiler, heat recovery and infrared heaters.

The project also required the selection of mechanical equipment for the garage and design of the garage layout.  The garage included hydraulic bus hoists, a spray paint booth, an engine/chassis lube system and a high pressure wash.

The construction administration and some construction supervision and testing for this $2.8M project was also provided by the firm. In parallel with the building project, extensions to the industrial park roads, water, and sewer services were also designed by the firm.

Shown here is one of the service bays. Both above and in-ground hydraulic lifts are employed to facilitate bus maintenance.

The Paint Booth with propane fired heating loop, cross draft airflow, and appropriate filtration systems, can accomodate the largest buses that the SRSB employs.

In order to create a more ergonomic facility all lubricants and fluids dispensers are suspended from overhead reels. Tailpipe fume extractors are also reel suspended for ease of operation and access.
