C.J. MacLellan & Associates Inc. in Association with sub consultants Vaughan Environmental completed an evaluation of leachate volumes, characteristics, and treatment options. The study included field activities such as site audits, surveying, geophysical component, flow monitoring, and receiving water assimilation study. An interim recirculation system was designed and monitored to adjust flow characterization. Treatment alternatives were developed, costed, and presented in a final report.

An interim strategy of collection from eight completed cells to a central pumping station and recirculation by way of Gas Venting headers was designed, project managed, and monitored for 14 months. It successfully reduced leachate springs and attenuated the leachate both in quantity and quality. Land application by irrigation to forested areas was successfully employed as was transfer and injection into a municipally operated sanitary wastewater treatment plant.
