And "Lagoon Survey and Sludge Sampling - July 2003" C.J. MacLellan & Associates was prime, with specialist sub-consultant A.B.L. Environmental Consulting , for the $3.1 million retro-fitting of the Town of Antigonish sewage treatment plant. The firm was responsible for the pollution control study, concept report, design, construction supervision, and commissioning of the new sewage treatment plant and lagoon. This was a challenging project due to the restraints imposed by designing and building on the site of the existing plant. The process modified the inlet works to provide grinding and variable flow pumping and increased lagoon size to 33 million gallons. Our design added floating aeration diffusers, continuous flow sand filters for 1.8 mgpd, and ultraviolet disinfection. The new sewage treatment plant has achieved 5/5 BOD5TSS effluent criteria for river discharge.
Shown above is the surface of the Lagoon. The closest view is cell number 1 which is the cell that receives the raw sewage from the inlet works VSD pumps.
Shown above in the far corner of cell 3, this waste water receives post lagoon treatment through the sand filter and disinfection by ultraviolet light system before it will be safe to release into the Wright's River mouth.
